Our family over here at OneReceipt has been working hard to introduce our newest addition - an iPhone app. It’s really very precocious and already proving to be quite the learner. Our newest bundle of joy was built for you to take with you wherever you go.
Here are two rules to make sure it stays happy. First, keep feeding it receipts because it’s a growing app and needs brain food. Second, please check on it frequently because it wants to see your smiling face.
The app has many of the features of the website and most importantly makes it easier to submit all of those tasty receipts. The capture receipt tab allows for a quick snap of a receipt and automatically gets added to your account.
Since we consider you family we would appreciate you spreading the news about the new addition.
It’s not a girl or a boy, it’s an iPhone app! @OneReceipt Tweet
Also, don’t forget about our other new addition to the Google Chrome store which allows you to empower your credit card and bank statements on AmEx, Citi, BofA and Mint.com.
Thanks for all of the support and please send us any feedback or suggestions at support@onereceipt.me or send us a message on Twitter @OneReceipt.
First, a small thank you. Then, a big announcement. We know you’ve seen and used the new OneReceipt design features that we launched a few weeks back. There’s been great feedback and people are really expressing their appreciation for the service. So, thank you.
In fact, we’re so thankful, that we’re going to do you a solid. This crazy March Madness month, we’re rolling out a game changing Google Chrome extension to empower your credit card and bank statements.
If you want to be able to see what you’ve actually bought on your credit card or bank statements, this extension is for you.
By downloading the extension, you’ll see on Mint.com, AmericanExpress.com, CitiCards.com and BankofAmerica.com full details for the charges that have matching receipts in your OneReceipt account. See the screenshot below of how it works on Mint.com. The black receipt icon on the right side means that we’ve identified a matching receipt from your OneReceipt account. By hovering the mouse over the icon you can see the receipt details.
Pretty cool, huh? We think so too. Stay tuned to hear about the other banks we’ll be adding in the coming weeks.
The extension helps solidify our belief that there should be a single platform for both email and paper receipts. Once you start using this plug-in you’ll see the importance of a single location. We know it takes an extra sec to submit a paper receipt, but this applications shows it’s worth it. And, in the coming weeks we’ll be launching our mobile application which will make submitting your paper receipts much easier.
We’ve been burning the midnight oil at OneReceipt headquarters to bring you the latest and greatest version of OneReceipt. In addition to a whole new fancypants design and an interface that allows you to better interact with your receipts, we listened to you, the people, and built some new features that you’ve been requesting.
Design
We know there’s a lot of information contained in a receipt, and we experimented with several design interfaces to get it just right. This design lays the framework for even greater functionality to come. We also updated some of our messaging with receipts to better communicate what’s going on behind the scenes.
Deleting a Receipt
You spoke; we listened. Now you can go to the Order Options and delete a purchase.
Interactive Analytics
Until now, you’ve been able to see your spend over time and by category. What if you want to see your purchases for food over time? Easy as last week’s pie purchase, just select a category or tag on your analytics page and see the update to your spending over time.
We really appreciate all the feedback we’ve received and are extremely excited about what we’ve got in store over the next few months. Plan on seeing big changes to help make OneReceipt more helpful to you.
We are thrilled to announce an exciting new partnership, but shhhhh, don’t tell anyone. This is for your eyes only. OneReceipt has been selected to participate in an intergalactic alliance to protect our skies… Just kidding! Today, OneReceipt officially joined the ScanAnywhere Alliance, to work with partners to make the receipt scanning and sharing process as seamless as possible. Translation: making anything you have do with a receipt -scanning, inputting, expense reports - faster and easier.
The Alliance is being formed by Expensify, a company that shares our mindset, living by the motto: “expense reports suck and receipts are to blame.” Over 100,000 companies now use Expensify, which uploads over 10,000 receipts and submits over $2M in expense reports every day. Expensify users can sign up for OneReceipt to get receipts into their Expensify account as quickly as possible. So go ahead, expense that.
All you Expensify users, welcome to the OneReceipt family!
To get started, just go to Account Settings → Connected Accounts to link your Expensify account to your OneReceipt account. Once there, you’ll be able to submit receipts from OneReceipt into Expensify.

Although the majority of financial sites seem to target men, dealing with money is not gender specific. We’ve noticed a recent trend of finance information and advice websites popping up that are specifically geared towards women. We use “finance” loosely, including investing, budgeting, spending, saving and earning. Some would go so far as to include “extreme” (read “crazy”) sub-categories like couponing (please see the coupon crazies).
We’re not going to focus on the “why” of the recent proliferation of these sites. (Waay out of our league). We’re here to discuss the content and give our two cents on the best of them. (In our league). For our female readers, we recommend two sites from among the masses that are leading the charge in providing smart and simple tailored content - DailyWorth and LearnVest. For our male readers, don’t think you can’t go to these sites too; the information is still pertinent, just created with a female in mind. (Like your girlfriend’s razor we know you use.)
DailyWorth is a content focused site that delivers a daily email to subscribers loaded with great articles. They’ve done a great job of organizing articles according to category so you don’t have to waste time on the irrelevant. You can quickly drill down to a specific topic, such as budgeting. Their design is reminiscent of a fashion / beauty focused site which is clean and very inviting, and keeps a woman engaged.
LearnVest also focuses on providing great content to its subscribers but wants to take the experience a few steps further. They built a platform that allows for a full financial overview that includes a Mint style experience but with some hands on features like phone consultations, comprehensive financial plans and online courses. They offer 3 paid levels of service and a lightweight free option. Their design is also very inviting and has warm pictures throughout the site.
Both sites are great tools or guides for those looking to bolster their financial knowledge or have been looking for a great way to start.
So there you have it, our two cents. And yes, we’ll take the receipt for that.
We’ve all gone through the practice of cleaning out our wallets, finding old receipts, and reminiscing about that hair removal system we bought that just didn’t work at all (oops, too much information). There’s nothing like taking a trip down memory lane through a look at your past purchases.
Read Jen G’s story and tell us about the craziest or most interesting story you were reminded about from one of your receipts. The winning submission will be reprinted on this blog.
P.S. Lucky for all you OneReceipt-ers, your purchase information is safe, secure and for your eyes only. (We won’t tell anyone about that thing you bought last week…)
Over here at OneReceipt we like to pride ourselves on knowing a thing or two about receipts. This includes trends, general tidbits or even the length of what could be the world’s longest receipt. An interesting find came from an unlikely source before the holidays when one unnamed team member was shopping for a gift for his girlfriend. While perusing the wares at an unnamed handbag designer’s retail store he found that the interior of one of the bags had a pouch with the word “Receipts” printed in gold lettering. It seems like this designer was thinking about the benefits of organization and keeping receipts for potential returns or expenses. This made us think – could paper receipts eventually be viewed as high-end or luxurious, and therefore out of the norm? Will we one day be privy to luxury fashion retailers sending customers email receipts and joining the growing number of retailers offering digital receipts as part of their daily operations.
It will be enlightening to watch this trend over the coming years and see which retailers begin offering email receipts first. We are constantly reminded about Nordstrom being at the forefront of this trend with their email receipt offering, but we need to see others embrace the digital world. It will take a few major retailers or brands making the decision and the others will follow. And what does taking this leap say about that retailer to you, the consumer?
We’re at the end of this column and still haven’t answered the essential question — will paper receipts one day be viewed as a luxury? Our friends at Seamless Receipts are helping retailers switch over to digital receipts in brick-and-mortar stores, but will certain stores holdout because of any luxurious quality in a paper receipt? Either way, for the women out there carrying 10-pound handbags stuffed with receipts or dedicated receipt pockets – we are here for you. Do us and your back a favor — take pictures of your paper receipts for your OneReceipt accounts and lighten your load. To us, disorganization and extra paper is never luxurious.
It’s holiday time here in NYC and that means cold weather and warm cheer. Many charitable organizations throughout the world look to raise much needed funds during the holiday season. These charities realize that they need to speed and ease the process of collecting funds by offering multiple avenues of payment. These include old fashioned check, cash and even credit card payments through platforms like PayPal and Square. During the NFL games on Thanksgiving, Square was highlighted at halftime for facilitating payments for the Salvation Army. This is a great cause and an even better way for Square to spread the word about their product offering.
With all the avenues for donation we noticed that tracking receipts or records can get tricky. Translation - added time while preparing for tax season.
Last Friday, one of our OneReceipters sent a tweet that got a lot of buzz about a donation.
By using the tagging feature in his account he’ll be able to easily track the receipt for his future tax preparation. Our smart OneReceipter (if we do say so ourselves) will be saving on his 2011 tax bill and ensure that the donation doesn’t get lost in the shuffle.
We’re all swamped this holiday season, but there are those who need our help a little bit more. And now when you donate, you’ll have the security of knowing your transaction won’t get lost, along with the warm feeling of doing something nice for those out in the cold.
